Pickaxes & Crates
Pickaxes are tools for Mining. Bosses drop Pickaxe Crates, and every crate opens into one pickaxe that you can upgrade, reroll, fuse and trade.
Getting crates
- Every boss you defeat with a Boss Key has a 10% chance to drop a Pickaxe Crate.
- Every boss in a Boss Rush rolls its own 10% chance, so a full run is ten chances.
- Crates wait in your Bag until you open them.
Opening crates
Select the Pickaxe Crate in your Bag and press Open. The crate screen lets you open one crate or ten, lists the odds and shows the live price before you confirm.
Each crate holds one pickaxe, from Uncommon up to Celestial. The odds per crate:
| Rarity | Chance |
|---|---|
| Uncommon | 38% |
| Rare | 25% |
| Epic | 15% |
| Legendary | 10% |
| Mythic | 6% |
| Cosmic | 3.5% |
| Divine | 1.6% |
| Celestial | 0.9% |
Each rarity has its own pickaxe name, shown with its upgrade level (for example Dawnbreaker +3): Iron Pickaxe (Common), Bronze Mattock (Uncommon), Steelbite Pickaxe (Rare), Voidglass Pickaxe (Epic), Sunforged Mattock (Legendary), Bloodiron Reaver (Mythic), Starcore Pickaxe (Cosmic), Dawnbreaker (Divine), Prism Pickaxe (Celestial), Seraph's Grace (Angel) and Worldbreaker (God). The tool bought with gold is the Basic Pickaxe.
Stats and Roll %
Every pickaxe has four stats: Power, Speed, Efficiency and Durability. Each stat rolls inside a range that depends on the pickaxe's rarity, and the card shows each stat's Roll %: where its value sits in that range, from 0% (lowest) to 100% (best).
The card also shows the pickaxe's Hash Power, which is its dig rate: Power × (20 + Speed), because a pickaxe lands 20 blows a minute plus one for each point of Speed. Below it, the card shows how many hours the pickaxe mines before it needs a repair. Hash Power is the pickaxe alone: on a hex, a 2x Drops boost, a mining pet such as the Diamond Digger and your gold or scrap bonus raise your dig rate on top of it, and one miner can use a hex's whole capacity.
Upgrading
Select a pickaxe in your Bag and press Upgrade. A pickaxe goes up to +10, and every level adds 4% of the rolled value to every stat. Upgrades follow the gear rules:
| Upgrade | Success chance |
|---|---|
| +0 to +3 | 100% |
| +3 to +4 | 85% |
| +4 to +5 | 72% |
| +5 to +6 | 59% |
| +6 to +7 | 46% |
| +7 to +8 | 33% |
| +8 to +9 | 20% |
| +9 to +10 | 15% |
- A failed upgrade does not lower the level, but the gold, materials and $AFKHERO you paid for that attempt are spent.
- Angel and God pickaxes are the exception: from +3 you need a Protection Talisman to try. If the upgrade fails, the Talisman is used up and the pickaxe keeps its level, so it is never destroyed.
- The cost is what a gear piece of the same rarity costs at item level 70: gold and Scrap Metal, plus fragments and $AFKHERO at the higher rarities. The upgrade window shows the exact cost and your chance before you confirm.
Rerolling a stat
Press Stat Reroll on a pickaxe and pick one stat. You can roll once, or use Auto to keep rolling toward a target of 22%, 44%, 66%, 88% or 100% of the stat's range. Auto runs in batches of up to 25 attempts and stops when it reaches the target, reaches the attempt limit you set, or you run out of money.
Each attempt costs gold up to Cosmic and $AFKHERO from Divine up:
| Rarity | Cost per attempt |
|---|---|
| Uncommon | 12,000 gold |
| Rare | 30,000 gold |
| Epic | 90,000 gold |
| Legendary | 300,000 gold |
| Mythic | 900,000 gold |
| Cosmic | 2,250,000 gold |
| Divine | $0.0125 worth of $AFKHERO |
| Celestial | $0.03 worth of $AFKHERO |
| Angel | $0.28 worth of $AFKHERO |
| God | $0.75 worth of $AFKHERO |
These are dollar values, paid in $AFKHERO at the live price. The reroll window shows exactly what you pay.
What one attempt can do:
| Result | Chance |
|---|---|
| Fail: nothing changes | 25% |
| The stat lands at 22% of its range | 38% |
| The stat lands at 44% of its range | 20% |
| The stat lands at 66% of its range | 10% |
| The stat lands at 88% of its range | 5.5% |
| The stat lands at 100% of its range | 1.5% |
- A successful roll replaces the old value, so a stat can go down as well as up.
- Bad-luck guarantee: your 120th attempt on a stat since its last 100% is a 100%. A meter on the stat counts your attempts.
- Reroll progress stays with the pickaxe if you sell it.
Fusion
Fusion turns several pickaxes of one rarity into one pickaxe of the next rarity. Select a pickaxe and press Fuse, then choose the pickaxes on the fusion screen. Five pickaxes make one, except Celestial to Angel and Angel to God, which take three.
| You fuse | Pickaxes needed | You get | Fee ($AFKHERO, dollar value) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uncommon | 5 | Rare | $0.15 |
| Rare | 5 | Epic | $0.30 |
| Epic | 5 | Legendary | $0.60 |
| Legendary | 5 | Mythic | $1.25 |
| Mythic | 5 | Cosmic | $2.50 |
| Cosmic | 5 | Divine | $5 |
| Divine | 5 | Celestial | $10 |
| Celestial | 3 | Angel | $30 |
| Angel | 3 | God | $100 |
- The fee is a dollar value, paid in $AFKHERO at the live price, and the fusion screen shows what you pay.
- Fusion is not random. Each stat of the new pickaxe lands at the average position your pickaxes' rolls held in their ranges, placed in the new rarity's range.
- Upgrade levels and reroll progress are not carried over to the new pickaxe.
- Locked pickaxes are never used in a fusion, so lock any pickaxe you want to keep.
What Angel and God pickaxes can do
- Your mining energy lasts longer while your hero mines with one: 12 hours with an Angel, 24 hours with a God.
- A Diamond Digger that carries one stays out longer: 3 hours with an Angel, 12 hours with a God.
- An Angel or God pickaxe can mine the Angel Hex in the centre of each zone, and a God pickaxe can also mine the God Hexes. See Mining.
- A rented one works the same while you have it.
Trading
Pickaxe minimum prices follow rarity: 2,250 $AFKHERO up to Cosmic, then Divine 7,500, Celestial 18,750, Angel 37,500 and God 75,000.
- A pickaxe keeps its upgrade level and reroll progress when it is sold.
- Offers, Featured spots, auctions and raffles all work on pickaxes.
- A buyer needs room under the 300-pickaxe limit.
- Fees and trading rules are the same as for everything else on the Marketplace.
